'It looks like' - Phil Hay drops positive LUFC injury update after 'nasty' incident

Phil Hay believes that Leeds United’s Archie Gray hasn’t sustained a serious injury during their latest pre-season clash.

Leeds are still out in Australia as they continue their pre-season tour Down Under. However, while some friendlies can be a bit slow as players look to build fitness and get up to match speed, Leeds’ latest one was far from a mild-mannered contest.

Indeed, the Whites took on Aston Villa out in Australia in a match which saw some feisty challenges go in between Patrick Bamford and Diego Carlos. On top of that, 16-year-old Gray was forced off with an injury he sustained following a tackle by John McGinn.

However, Hay provided some positive news on Gray’s injury, as he spoke on The Phil Hay Show.

The journalist said: “You could feel what happened to Archie Gray coming because there were tackles going in. It was a very poor tackle from McGinn, a poor tackle in pre-season because this is a kind of stupid time to go over the top, but I don’t think anybody would have looked at it as a good tackle in the middle of the season either.

“It looks like Archie Gray is okay. I mean, the initial thought looking at him, he looked in a lot of pain on the pitch and obviously had the leg brace on his right leg and stretchered off and you assume to yourself that there was a high likelihood that even if it wasn’t a break, it was going to be something pretty nasty. He seems to be okay.”

It is great news for Gray that his injury now isn’t said to be too serious. Still being just 16, the last thing he needed was a setback such as a potential leg break, something that appeared possible after the poor tackle from McGinn.
