'It is true' - Fabrizio Romano reveals exciting Spurs transfer update

Fabrizio Romano has insisted Tottenham Hotspur director of football Fabio Paratici is working on a deal for Luis Diaz in the final days of the window.

The Italian journalist has been speaking on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast to discuss the latest goings-on at Hotspur Way as the Lilywhites look to kickstart their January window.

With less than a week remaining, the Porto winger has emerged as a shock target for the Lilywhites after a £37.6m bid was rejected for the 25-year-old.

Talks for Adama Traore from Wolverhampton Wanderers seem to have slowed down in pace, with reports suggesting Spurs have not made any further progress with just days remaining of the window.

And with previous links to Liverpool and Manchester United as being interested parties in the Colombian winger, Romano had the following update to provide on Tottenham’s pursuit:

“It is true that they have an interest in Luis Diaz. So he’s a player that Tottenham are working on. But it’s not easy because they’re offering around £35m/£45m including the add-ons, and this is not what Porto want.

“So it’s not going to be easy. Fabio Paratici’s working on it directly. Let’s see what happens. The player dreams of a Premier League move, but it’s not easy between clubs.”

TIF Thoughts on Diaz to Spurs…

We certainly think this would be a statement signing for Spurs if they were able to get a deal over the line. With some of the biggest clubs in the world said to be interested, it would definitely feel like a real coup.

However, there is clearly a stumbling block over the two clubs’ valuations of the 25-year-old. But we think if Spurs are not too far away from Porto’s valuation, they should consider scrapping any deal for Traore and going all-in on Diaz.
