Is this a sign? John Higgins at the centre of amazing World Snooker Championship prophecy

Scottish legend John Higgins is staring at Crucible heartache.

Then again, the 48-year-old has starred in this movie before – and all too recently. A couple of nights ago, Higgins was on the brink of a World Snooker Championship defeat. Trailing Mark Allen 9-7, the Wizard from Wishaw somehow summoned the skill and belief mined from winning four titles at the iconic venue to edge the Antrim native 13-12 in a dramatic late night victory. It included a shot off the cushion that almost defied belief.

The win, of course, propelled Higgins into the quarter-finals to face Kyren Wilson, who he trails. But during that epic contest with Allen, John Virgo said something in commentary the whole of Scotland will hope will prove prophetic. But none more so than Higgins. Now, there’s nothing more special in snooker than a 147. Higgins himself has racked up 13 of them, to lie second only to Ronnie O’Sullivan’s 15 on the all time table of maximum breaks.

But it was another two 147s – not included in that list – which somehow may prove most valuable. And this leads us back to Virgo’s statement. Because the veteran commentator revealed the stars may be aligning for the great Scot. He claimed Mark Williams knocked in two maximum breaks 147s in an exhibition event in the lead-up to him winning the World Championship in 2018. So what? Well, Virgo added Higgins also sunk a pair of 147s in an exhibition a couple of months ago. See you on Sunday, May 5, John?
