Is it worth paying £15 more for an Amazon Echo Dot over cheaper Echo Pop?

Amazon's Echo speakers are an ideal purchase if you're looking for a small, relatively inexpensive speaker to bring some music into the home. Better still, they double up as smart assistants with Alexa built in, letting you set timers and control your smart home with your voice.

However, Amazon has a few different models of the Echo speakers in its range, each of which have slightly different features and carry slowly increasing price tags. You can quite easily get away with the most basic Echo speaker, the Pop - but I think there's a good case for spending an extra £15 and upgrading to the latest Echo Dot model.

Although the Echo Dot actually looks like it's £22 more expensive on Amazon right now, you can actually get even more money knocked off by combining the Amazon Spring Deal Days event with TopCashback. Create a new account using this unique link and you can get the Echo Dot for £37.87 instead of the usual £44.99, scoring a total saving of 31% overall.

So, why bother upgrading from the Echo Pop to the Echo Dot? The main reason that you'd want to go for the Echo Dot is if you care about sound quality as it's capable out a much richer sound compared to the smaller Pop.

The better sound quality is likely down to the larger size of the Echo Dot, as the internal speaker is able to produce a much heavier sound. You'll notice this in both the high and low ends when listening to music, as the Pop speaker sounds much flatter and quieter in comparison.

Another big benefit that the Dot has over the Pop is that it has an ambient temperature sensor. This won't be a deal breaker for most folks, but if you have a smart thermostat in your home it can provide incredibly useful.
