Irish records fall on memorable weekend for Daniel Wiffen
Daniel Wiffen has enjoyed a prolific weekend at the Scottish Short Course Championships, where he smashed three Irish records.
He swam the fastest 1500m freestyle in the world this year, and the sixth fastest time ever, as he touched the wall first in 14 minutes 14.45 seconds.
In the same race, his identical twin Nathan became only the second Irishman to break the 15-minute barrier in the 1500m in a time of 14:57.50.
Before that Daniel had already bettered his own national record in the 800m with a time of 7:35.71.
On Friday the Larne swimmer came home in a time of 4:11.05 to take bronze in the 400m individual medley, beating Brendan Hyland's old record, which he set in 2019, by 1.08 seconds.
