Ireland women's four finish fifth at Europeans

The Ireland's women's four team finished fifth in their European Rowing Championships final in Bled, Slovenia on Saturday morning.

The Irish team won bronze at Tokyo 2020, with Olympic medallists Aifric Keogh, Eimear Lambe and Fiona Murtagh joined by Tara Hanlon, who replaced Emily Hegarty in the event last year.

They had secured their place in the A final after finishing third in Friday morning's repechage.

Great Britain set a scorching early pace but they were pipped by the fast-finishing Romanians, with the Dutch taking bronze.

Earlier, Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch booked their place in the men's double A final after finishing second in their semi-final.

Reigning European, World and Olympic champion Fintan McCarthy and new partner Hugh Moore will go off in their lightweight double sculls A final at 1.13pm today [live on the RTÉ News channel and RTÉ Player].
