Ireland U20s were unsure if game against Fiji would go ahead

Ireland head coach Richie Murphy admitted that he wasn't sure if their World Rugby U20s Championship match against Fiji would go ahead after the death of one of the player’s fathers.

Greig Oliver, father of Jack and a Munster Rugby coach, died in a paragliding accident in Cape Town. Jack was named in the match-day squad the day before.

Hosts South Africa await Ireland in Sunday’s semi-final (3.30pm Irish time) in the Athlone Sports Stadium, Cape Town.

The Junior Boks topped their pool after wins over Georgia and Argentina and a loss to Italy.

The sides met in the 2022 Summer Series when South Africa won 33-24 in Italy.
