Ireland to face Australia and England in T20 World Cup Super 12s

Zimbabwe's defeat of Scotland in the T20 World Cup means they edge out Ireland to top Group B, with Andy Balbirnie's side advancing to face Sri Lanka, England, Afghanistan, Australia and New Zealand in the Super 12s.

Ireland sensationally dumped the West Indies, two-time winners of the competition, out of the tournament with a nine-wicket victory earlier today to seal their own passage to the next round.

It's just the second time Ireland have advanced to the next stage of the tournament. They previously managed it in 2009 in what was then the Super 8s rather than the Super 12s.

Scotland, who also upset the West Indies in the group, faced Zimbabwe in a winner-takes-all encounter in Hobart, but were edged out by five wickets.

It means Ireland finish second in group B as a result of an inferior run rate to Zimbabwe, who will now take on India, Pakistan and South Africa in Group 2.

Ireland will open their Super 12s campaign against Sri Lanka on Sunday morning (5am Irish time) before taking on England, Afghanistan, Australia and finally New Zealand in Adelaide.

Group winners and runners-up make the semi-finals.
