Ireland squad confirmed for shinty international

The Ireland squad for the upcoming hurling/shinty international has been confirmed with 14 counties represented in the 20-man selection.

Antrim's Neil McManus will captain the side for the clash against Scotland at Newry's Páirc Esler on 21 October, with Galway's Damien Coleman the manager.

His backroom team will be made up of Kieran Kingston, Terence 'Sambo' McNaughton and Michael Kavanagh.

"We are delighted with our progress; we have a strong panel assembled for the Hurling-Shinty International with representation from 14 counties," said Coleman.

"It's vital that we as an Association maintain our traditions, and this event affords hurlers from all tiers the opportunity to play together. The players are all looking forward, as are all our management team to 21 October when we welcome the Scotland team to Páirc Esler."

The fixture, organised jointly by the GAA and Scotland's Camanachd Association, was last played in 2019 with the Covid pandemic seeing it cancelled ever since.

The Scots won the last four meetings in the annual contest, with Ireland's most recent victory coming in 2015.
