Ireland's William Creighton crowned Junior World Rally champion

William Creighton has been crowned FIA Junior WRC champion, becoming the first Irish driver to win the title since the late Craig Breen achieved the feat in 2011.

Along with co-driver Liam Regan, the 25-year-old from Co Down managed to take home a fifth place finish at the 305.81 km Acropolis Rally Greece which was enough to ensure the championship win by eight points ahead of Diego Domínguez, who won the season's final round.

"To emulate what Craig [Breen] did. I know he would have been right in the middle of all this right now and he would've been so happy," Creighton told WRC.com, paying tribute to Waterford native Breen who died following a crash in a pre-test event ahead of Croatia Rally in April.

"We all go rallying to have fun and what happened to him is so sad. I've definitely been thinking about him."

Creighton claimed 34 stage wins across the 2023 championship and won the rounds in Sweden and Italy.

Previously known as the Junior World Rally Championship, it is age restricted to under-29s and is a support series to the prestigious World Rally Championship.
