Ireland primed for Tunisia away tie in Davis Cup return
Ireland are keen to build on the recent Davis Cup home tie against Austria as they switch focus to their next assignment which will be away against Tunisia in September.
The Irish team, who recently moved up one ranking place to 49th in the world, were recently drawn against the 58th-ranked Tunisians in World Group II, the third tier of the men's international competition.
It will come off the back of the memorable World Group I play-off tie against Austria on 3-4 February at Limerick's UL Arena, with the sold-out event having marked Ireland's first home tie in nine years.
The Irish team, which was made up of Simon Carr, Osgar Ó hOisín, Michael Agwi, Conor Gannon and playing vice-captain David O’Hare and captained by Conor Niland, lost 4-0 to the Austrians who had 2020 US Open winner Dominic Thiem and world number 38 Sebastian Ofner within their ranks.
"Our recent Davis Cup tie against Austria was the best weekend Irish tennis has had in many years," Niland said of the draw which took place in London.
"As a team we will continue to build on these experiences and look forward to our next tie in Tunisia in September, which, as ever, will be a tough challenge but one we look forward to meeting together".
