Ireland knocked out of World Cup after 2-1 loss to Canada
The Republic of Ireland have suffered an early exit from the Women's World Cup with a 2-1 defeat to Canada.
The Girls in Green needed a positive result in their second group game to retain hopes of making the knockout stages.
Vera Pauw's side made a great start and really put it up to Canada, ranked seventh in the world.
Katie McCabe put Ireland 1-0 up early on with a perfectly struck corner which went directly in.
It looked like Ireland would head in for the break with a valuable lead, however, a Megan Connolly own goal brought the sides level.
Adriana Leon's 53rd minute strike ended Ireland's chances of reaching knockout stages.
