Ireland finish fourth at the Singapore Sevens

Ireland heartbreakingly missed out on a place in the final of the Singapore Sevens and eventually had to settle for fourth place overall.

Playing New Zealand in the semi-final, Ireland looked like they were heading to the final after tries from Terry Kennedy and Gavin Mullin.

But the Kiwis weren't to be denied as Akuila Rokolisoa went over with the game into added time to inflict a 22-19 defeat on the Irish.

Ireland then went into the 3/4 place play-off, where they were beaten 21-19 by Australia after they failed to convert Andrew Smith's late try.

Earlier in the competition Ireland had beaten Japan and the USA, as well as a first ever victory over eventual winners Fiji.
