Ireland faces into biggest Davis Cup match in 40 years

The Irish Davis Cup team faces into its biggest match in four decades as they face Peru in Lima for a place in World Cup Group 1, the second tier of the men's game.

The pivotal playoff match takes place in the Estadio Asia, with five games over the next two days, comprising of four singles matches with a doubles tie in between.

Ireland will be outsiders, though they were boosted by the withdrawal of Peruvian No. 1, Juan Pablo Varillas, ranked 94th in the world.

Irish No. 1 Simon Carr - son of former Dublin player and manager Tommy - plays Gonzalo Bueno in the opening match at 5pm Irish time.

Afterwards, Irish No. 2 Osgar O'hOisin plays Arklon Huertas Del Pino. Michael Agwi and Jack Molloy are the remaining members of the Irish team, which is captained by Cian Blake, in the absence of Conor Niland.
