Ireland beat Barbados to make Davis Cup play-offs
Ireland have beaten Barbados 3-2 in the Davis Cup to progress to the World Group I playoffs next year.
On Saturday, Simon Carr and David O'Hare beat experienced Barbados pair Darian King and Haydn Lewis 7-6, 6-3.
Ireland’s No 1 Carr then lost 6-3 6-2 to King, making it 2-2 overall and setting up a decisive singles match between Osgar O’hOisin and Kaipo Marshall.
O'hOisin dominated the match from the start, getting an early break and holding his serve with ease, cruising to the first set 6-0 in just 30 minutes.
At 2-0 up in the second set and at Marshalls advantage in the third game, the rain poured down and the match was suspended where thunder and lightning took over.
It rained for an hour but with both teams eager to finish the tie, the Ireland team helped the volunteers dry the court in order to finish the match before sunset at 6pm.
At 5.15pm, the match resumed. Osgar brought the game back to deuce and then advantage and proceeded to close out the second set for a 6-0, 6-3 win.
The draw or the play-offs takes place on Tuesday 20 September.
