Iran protest crackdown: Two reporters could face death penalty over Mahsa Amini story
Her name was Mahsa Amini, she had been arrested over a headscarf - having fallen foul of the so-called fashion police in Iran who enforce strict laws on the wearing of the hijab. The Islamic Republic of Iran denies that the circumstances surrounding Amini’s death are suspicious, denies that she was ill treated, and denies she was beaten by a number of male police officers.
Amini’s death in September ignited protest that continues in Iran to this day. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the United Nations are all raising questions over Amini's death in police custody.
