IPL 2022: Who needs to beat who to qualify - All playoffs possibilities in 8 points

IPL 2022, there still remain 32 possible combinations of results. TOI looked at each of these possibilities to calculate the chances of individual teams making it to the playoffs. As things stand, one team is sure to top the group stage while two are definitely out of the playoffs, leaving seven teams still in with a chance of booking the remaining three slots.

Here is how the teams stand as of Wednesday morning: 1) MI and CSK are out of the reckoning for playoff spots, GT are guaranteed to finish first. 2) SRH’s chances of finishing in the top four spots on points have improved to 12.5% after Tuesday’s win. They can do that by winning their last game and if RCB lose their last match to GT.

If that happens, SRH will finish with 14 points and be joint fourth with two (DC, RCB) or three (DC, RCB and KKR) other teams depending on who wins the KKR-LSG game 3) KKR’s chances of making it to the top four on points are also at 12.5%. To do so, they need to win their last game against LSG and then hope that GT beat RCB and MI beat DC. That would leave them on 14 points tied with three others (DC, RCB and either SRH or PBKS) 4) PBKS’ chances of making it to the top four on points are the same at 12.5%.

To get there, they need to beat SRH and hope that MI beat DC and GT beat RCB. In that scenario, they would be on 14 points with two (DC, RCB) or three others (DC, RCB and KKR) depending on who wins the KKR-LSG game 5) DC’s chances of making it to the top four slots on points remain at 75%. Their best case scenario would be to win their last game against MI and hope that LSG and RR lose their games against KKR and CSK respectively.
