IPL 2022: KL Rahul credits batting depth, all-round prowess for Lucknow Super Giants' win over Mumbai Indians

Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) skipper KL Rahul credited the batting depth and the presence of several all-rounders in his squad for the win against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium here on Sunday. It is Lucknow's fifth win in eight matches of IPL 2022, which is their debut season. Rahul played a well-controlled knock, starting cautiously, building in the middle and exploding towards the end as he carried his bat through for an unbeaten 103, which helped LSG reach 168 for 6 in their second clash with Mumbai Indians this season.

KL Rahul posted his second hundred of the season to guide Lucknow Super Giants to a 36-run win on Sunday and extend the Mumbai Indians' losing streak to eight games in the Indian Premier League. Riding on Rahul's 103 not out, Lucknow scored 168/6 in 20 overs before restricting Mumbai to 132/8.

Krunal Pandya led a clinical bowling performance for Lucknow, claiming 3/19 as Lucknow grabbed the initiative in the middle overs and went on to restrict Mumbai Indians to 132/8 in 20 overs, winning by 36 runs. "I tried to stay in the moment and see what's expected from me," said KL Rahul said during the post-match presentation ceremony. "Fingers crossed, I can carry on doing the same thing. We do back deep with (Jason) Holder walking in at No. 8 and he has hardly batted. When you have that depth, you can play freely and take more chances." He said the teams that are doing well this season are those that can bowl well in the powerplay and death overs.
