Iowa-UConn Final Four Matchup Was The Most Watched Game In Women's College Basketball History

Did you watch the women’s college basketball Final Four matchup between UConn and Iowa? Well, you were far from the only one.

Caitlin Clark and the No. 1-seeded Hawkeyes took down Paige Bueckers and the  No. 3-seeded Huskies 71-69 to earn a berth in the national title game. It was certainly the most anticipated women’s college basketball game in recent memory, if not all time.

Much of that anticipation centered around Clark’s marketability for the women’s game, and with good reason. She’s set the NCAA record for most points scored in a career, can hit threes from pretty much anywhere, and is unquestionably the game’s best player. Plus, she was going against the most dominant team in the sport over the past 20 years, and the actual game lived up to the hype.

While fans enjoyed the game on its own, cable networks enjoyed it for other reasons. According to ESPN PR, the Hawkeyes-Huskies clash was the most watched women’s college basketball game on record. Additionally, the earlier semi final between South Carolina and NC State brought in historic viewership numbers as well.

Talk about a banner night in the sport!

Iowa will face South Carolina for the women’s national title on Sunday at 3 p.m. With Clark on the floor and a championship on the line, don’t be surprised if that matchup puts up monster numbers.
