IOC gives Indian Olympic Association time till December to set house in order

International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the national Olympic committee’s (IOA) failure to elect a new set of office-bearers. The IOC, late on Thursday evening, also threatened to postpone the important IOC Session to be held in Mumbai next year.

“To issue a final warning and consider the immediate suspension of the NOC of India at the next IOC Executive Board meeting in December 2022 if, by then, the NOC of India is not able to address and resolve its governance issues to the satisfaction of the IOC, in particular by holding its quadrennial elections in accordance with the Olympic Charter,” the IOC said in aletter. The IOC has added that the IOA’s secretary general Rajeev Mehta will serve as the main point of contact to coordinate the next steps with the IOC, meaning the acting president, Anil Khanna, is out of the loop.

“In view of the above, we propose to organise a joint meeting on September 27 in Lausanne,” the letter said.
