Invicta Dynamos face Chelmsford Chieftains in the final of the NIHL Southern Cup; first leg at Gillingham, Planet Ice on Saturday

It’s cup final time for Invicta Dynamos and a chance for the current crop to write their name into the history books.

Coach Karl Lennon’s already been there and done it and now gets the chance to lead a side to cup glory in the club’s 25th anniversary season.

Lennon said: “It is massive, it is what the history of the club has been about, getting to finals, opportunities like this.

“The players have worked fantastically across the season to get ourselves into this position, we are there deservedly. It is a great opportunity for them to put their name in this club’s history and ultimately, it is them, they have to do it.

“I will prepare them as best I can and come game night on Saturday and Sunday they need to be completely focused with the right energy to win a trophy. They can do it, there is no question that they can do it, but it is now the proof point, we have to stop talking and start doing.

“I can’t wait because I think it’s great that the club is back in the final and looking forward to a packed arena, home and away, and that can only bring the best out of the players.”

The Dynamos have the upper-hand over the Chiefs with four wins from four in the league - but Lennon certainly won’t be complacent against a side who recently beat league champions Streatham - a team who won 11-2 in Gillingham on Sunday.

“Chelmsford would have taken a lot of confidence from that and rightly so,” Lennon said.

“They have talent in the team to cause us problems. I am quite happy and confident leading into the game, but I know that they have threats and on their day they can perform.
