Investigation launched as 'medical bottles' flytipped near playground

A ‘heinous’ fly-tipping grot spot on the outskirts of Manchester city centre is being ‘investigated’ by the council after ‘medical bottles’ were dumped near a playground.

The ‘large-scale’ dump was spotted by a bus passenger on Sunday (February 2) near Rochdale Road. They added it included ‘boxes and boxes worth’ of ‘medical 12 ounce bottles’.

“I feel like the people in the local area deserve better as among this waste were what appears to be medical ‘12 ounce’ bottles — boxes and boxes worth,” they said.

Images show a settee, badly damaged, has been dumped on the fields on Livesey Street. Numerous black bin bags have also been left, as have a large quantity of cardboard boxes.

One of these boxes is labelled '16oz Round Liquid Bottle', and can be seen wrapped in a plastic tether but ripped apart with bottles spilling out. Photos show there are dozens of similar cardboard boxes, many of which are also ripped with plastic bottles spilling out.

While the cardboard boxes dominate the scene, the area has also been enveloped by clothing, plastic shopping bags, soft drink bottles, beer cans, and crisp packets.

Council chiefs have now confirmed the authority is aware of the waste on Livesey Street, near Bothwell Road and St George’s Community centre, which has a separate, fenced-off playground.

An investigation has been opened by Manchester City Council, a spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of a large fly-tip dumped near Livesey Street facing Bothwell Road.

“Our dedicated team is now investigating the incident and will have the fly-tip removed once the investigation is complete. We want to urge residents that if they are aware of fly-tipping to report this immediately to the council and to help keep communities safe
