Inverness could perform Kelty Hearts switch U turn after fan backlash as chairman warns against season ticket boycott

Inverness CT chairman Ross Morrison admits the club could scrap plans to move their training base to Kelty. But there would be a £400,000 gap to plug as a result.

The announcement that the the Highland club would train at League One rivals Kelty Hearts' New Central Park ground next season rather than in Inverness sparked a furious reaction from fans. The cost of paying players enough to tempt them north and housing them has been cited as a factor, as well as saving money on not using the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium outside of matchdays.

Duncan Ferguson's squad would train in Kelty during the week, and only travel up to Inverness on matchdays, meaning the ICT players would only be in the Highland capital once every fortnight. Fans have accused Morrison, and CEO Scot Gardiner of costing the club it's identity and want the move reversed. Morrison admits that could happen, but then would leave relegated Caley with crippling costs still to cover.

He told The Wyness Shuffle podcast: "I don't really want to go down to Kelty, but it's the finances and the big bucks we've got to spend to get players to come up here. I want to keep us full time, and I want to get us up. I think the Kelty thing is the way to do that.

"We signed an agreement with Kelty. It's a done deal, but you can get out of done deals. The problem is where do we get the money to supplement the savings that we make by going down there?

"The opportunity is still there (for someone to come up with an idea). We haven't started playing at Kelty, but we probably need the thick end of £400,000, and I don't see where we get that from.
