Interpros the sole focus for Sadhbh McGrath after Leaving Cert

On Saturday, the Vodafone Women's Interprovincial Championship gets underway with Ulster welcoming defending champions Munster to Armagh.

Among the Ulster contingent will be one of Ireland's emerging talents, Sadhbh McGrath, who made her senior international debut during the TikTok Women's Six Nations earlier this year.

While she has been ticking off significant milestones on the pitch, the prop goes into the new season off the back of a summer when she was busy putting pen to paper during the Leaving Cert.

"That was a bit of a juggle but my school in Buncrana, they were fantastic, sending me work and anything I needed," told RTÉ Sport's Michael Corcoran.

"They were there for me through the whole thing so if I didn't have their support, I definitely wouldn't have been able to do it.

"But it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. School, you can go back, but if you want to be playing at the top level, you have to take those opportunities."

The 18-year-old is now awaiting her exam results whilst simultaneously keeping a focus on the build-up to a keenly contested interpo series that will see her come up against many of her Ireland team-mates.

"The work is done, you can't worry about (the results) anymore. (The interpros) are what I'm focusing on now," she said, before quipping that "the interpros are the most important now".

And McGrath credited her team-mates and coaches for their backing as she makes those early steps as a provincial and international player.

"I wouldn't be able to do it if the girls weren't helping me out the whole time," she said.

"It's so nice to be able to ask questions and not be afraid to make mistakes. That's how you're going to learn.
