Billy Vunipola ban hearing live updates as England No. 8 discovers punishment for World Cup after red card
Billy Vunipola is set to discover whether he will miss the start of England's World Cup campaign later today.
Vunipola was yellow carded in the dismal defeat to Ireland on Saturday, following a shoulder-to-head challenge on prop Andrew Porter. That was then upgraded to a red card via the off-field TMO bunker.
Six Nations, the organisers of the home nations' World Cup warm-up fixtures, have since confirmed that Vunipola will now face a hearing to decide what happens next.
Should he receive a ban, he will be set to miss the start of England's World Cup campaign, which begins against Argentina on September 9.
A suspension would potentially be a disastrous development for England coach Steve Borthwick, with Vunipola the only specialist No. 8 named in his 33-man squad for the upcoming tournament.
It comes on the same day Owen Farrell's case goes before an appeal disciplinary panel. The England captain had a yellow card upgraded to a red against Wales, which was then overturned, which World Rugby have appealed against. Follow live updates here.
