International selection can help Warrington says George Williams

England half-back George Williams believes Warrington’s international call-ups could help bring confidence back into the team.

Williams, 27, is one of five players that have been selected by England boss Shaun Wane to face the Combined Nations All Stars this Saturday.

Daryl Clark and Peter Mata’utia could also feature at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, having been selected for Ellery Hanley’s All Stars side.

Warrington fell to their fifth straight defeat last weekend, and currently sit ninth in the Super League table with just five wins in 15 games.

However, Williams is hoping that this international clash will help rejuvenate the players involved to take back to the club for the second half of the season.

“All seven of us are wanting to get back into playing really well and it starts this weekend for our country and for the All Stars,” Williams told Love Rugby League. 

“Hopefully we can get some confidence out of this game and improve from this week as players and take it back to our club.

“We’re our own worst enemy half the time. We’re making too many errors and defensively we’re not strong enough. We’ve conceded way too many points throughout the pitch all over the park.

“Confidence is massive in rugby league and momentum is massive and at the minute we’ve not got any. We’re working really hard to get that win and hopefully we can build off a win but at the moment we can’t seem to find that.”

Williams himself has produced just five try assists so far in Super League, crossing for four himself. The former Wigan and Canberra half is hoping a change of scenery can get him back to his best.
