'Interesting opportunity' - Fabrizio Romano hints Leeds could move for 'special' player

Leeds United may have found their potential replacement for Kalvin Phillips – if he is to leave this summer – in RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams. 

This is according to reliable transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who was speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel following the conclusion of the Premier League campaign.

The future of Leeds midfielder Phillips is up in the air as the summer transfer window nears, with a number of Premier League clubs believed to be interested in the 26-year-old.

And one player who the Yorkshire side may look to replace Phillips if he was to depart in the coming months is American midfielder Adams.

Having previously been managed by Jesse Marsch during his spells in the United States and Germany, Romano believes this could be an option for Leeds to explore.

He said: “Why not? His relationship with Marsch is great. At the moment, there are no negotiations between the two clubs, but we know that the relationship is great and it could be a really interesting opportunity.

“For sure, Leeds needs to understand now what they want to do with Phillips, because this is a really important point.”

Interestingly, Jesse Marsch even called the player ‘special’ during his time at RB Leipzig, so it’s clear to see that he’s already a fan of the midfielder.

Adams played 71 times under Marsch during their spells together at New York Red Bulls and Leipzig, in which the midfielder was able to return three goals and seven assists (via Transfermarkt).

However, it is perhaps his defensive abilities which have made Adams a regular in the German side’s XI, as per 90 minutes, Adams has recorded 1.73 tackles and 2.13 blocks this season (via FBRef).
