Interesting claim made about Steve Bruce’s future as West Brom boss
The 61-year-old has a break clause in his contract according to Alan Nixon that lasts for a week in June.
Either party can utilise this break clause which would see the manager part ways with the club.
But Phillips believes the fans can have their say in determining the future of Bruce at the Hawthorns.
The former Newcastle manager only arrived at the club in February, but results haven’t improved on the poor run that saw Valerien Ismael dismissed in January.
That has left many questioning the future of Bruce at the club.
The former West Brom striker is unsure of what direction that the Baggies should take this summer, but insists that fan sentiment will play a role in any decisions made.
“It’s a difficult one to comment on,” said Phillips, via West Brom News.
“It hasn’t quite worked out, it’s been a frustrating time for him because you see his side beat Bournemouth and then they lose the way they did against Stoke, you think they couldn’t follow it up.
“I’d back him to still be there, but from fan power, depending on how they finish the season in the remaining fixtures will probably determine what the board will do whether they take that up or not. He’s certainly got the qualities to do the job.”
West Brom suffered defeat last weekend, losing 3-1 at home to Stoke City, which has left the side 12th in the Championship.
The Baggies are eight points adrift of the play-offs in what has been a disappointing campaign at the Hawthorns.
Up next for Bruce’s side is the visit of Blackpool on April 15.
Bruce’s stint in charge of the team has been less than spectacular but it has only been a few months.
There have been signs of improvement in recent weeks as well, before the international break disrupted the team’s momentum.
