Inter striker Edin Dzeko sends Man City message ahead of Champions League final

Inter striker Edin Dezko says his side will come up against “the best team in the world” when they meet former club Manchester City in the Champions League final.

The attacker’s legacy at the Etihad is defined by his headed goal in the unforgettable final day comeback in 2012 to help City lift their maiden Premier League title, and it’s evident the Bosnian still has a lot of affection for the Blues.

“Being in the final of the Champions League against my club, City, it’s a big thing for me,” he told BT Sport. “I’m looking forward to it because I will have a lot of fans in the stadium on both sides so I cannot wish for more.”

Dzeko has scored four goals in Inter’s run to the Champions League final, including in the first semi-final leg against Milan. However, he has not been in the free-scoring form of yesteryear this season.

He has tallied 14 goals overall but just three of them have come since February. Nevertheless, Dzeko is likely to start in Istanbul having started all but two of Inter’s 12 Champions League matches this term.

He knows that his team are the underdogs and will need a huge performance to upset the odds. However, Dzeko has given a defiant cry ahead of the battle.

He added: “We know that we are going to play against probably the best team in the world. The whole team has to do more than 100 per cent but we are tough as well.”

Dzeko scored 72 goals in 189 appearances between 2011 and 2016. He lifted two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup and a Community Shield before his permanent exit for Roma.
