Inter 0-2 Liverpool: Van Dijk hugged Inter Milan player after Mo Salah scored

Liverpool have one foot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League following their 2-0 victory over Inter Milan on Wednesday night.

Second half goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah earned Jurgen Klopp’s side a brilliant victory in what was a tough 90 minutes against the Italian champions.

While the Reds won’t have the benefit of the two away goals they scored, they will fancy their chances of finishing the job at Anfield in a few weeks time.

In what was a tight encounter, Liverpool’s class eventually told and it was their ability to use their full-strength squad that made the difference.

Half-time substitute, Roberto Firmino, opened the scoring with a brilliant header from Andy Robertson’s corner.

Luis Diaz, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita all came on at the same time with the scores still at 0-0 and the trio helped Liverpool take control.

But it wasn’t until Salah’s strike with four minutes remaining that Liverpool confirmed victory.

It was more relief than celebration when the Egyptian’s effort deflected past Samir Handanovic. Liverpool knew they had been given a tough match.

And that relief was clear for all to see on one man in particular – Virgil van Dijk.

He reacted to Salah’s effort finding the net in unusual style – by hugging the nearest Inter Milan player.

That happened to be his international teammate, Denzel Dumfries.
