Insider: West Ham exit on the cards for ‘extra threat’ who Moyes once called ‘really important’
As per West Ham United insider Claret & Hugh, there has been an update on the future of defender Ryan Fredericks with his contract set to expire later this year.
It’s safe to say his last outing, a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle United, wouldn’t have covered the 29-year-old in too much glory.
In what was an afternoon to forget for Fredericks personally, his performance against the Magpies attracted real criticism and even resulted in manager David Moyes hooking the player at half-time.
According to SofaScore, the Englishman was West Ham’s lowest-rated player on the day with a 6.3/10 as C&H now make a big claim on his future in east London.
As per the Irons insider, Fredericks’ outing may have pushed him closer to leaving West Ham later this year with an exit on the cards.
They say West Ham are ‘likely’ not to stand in his way and it is believed they may well let his current deal run down with no sign of an extension.
Fredericks has actually put in some solid showings in the past with Moyes even explaining to reporters at one stage last year that his speed is ‘really important’ and gives an ‘extra dimension’ (via C&H).
Also called an ‘extra threat’ from out wide (journalist Sam Delaney, U Irons Podcast via This is Futbol), we believe the right-back should still be allowed to leave regardless.
The brilliant form of Ben Johnson at right-back this season arguably negates the need for Fredericks, as does the presence of Vladimir Coufal.
At 29, the homegrown ace is also slowly entering the twilight phase of his career and now could be time for West Ham to let him go.
