Inside the tiny pub that's just opened opposite a Greater Manchester train station

We've all been there. That moment, stood in front of the screens at a train station when the dreaded words flash up to confirm that your trip home is either delayed, or worse, cancelled.

Cue a collective sigh across the station concourse, before some whip out their phones to let their other half know, while others sink down into one of those cold metal chairs looking wistfully out onto the platform. Those in the know will head somewhere else though.

A train station pub or bar can be many things. A convenient meeting point before meeting friends for a day out, somewhere to shelter from the elements, or a refuge for those perennially afflicted by delayed or cancelled trains.

Here in Greater Manchester commuters are rejoicing at the latest pub opening, which happens to be a brand new craft beer spot at Manchester Oxford Road. The new spot sits opposite the train station's entrance, taking residence in what was previously the cycle hub and a small cafe.

Oxford Tap as you may have guessed from the name comes from the people behind Piccadilly Tap on Piccadilly Approach and Victoria Tap, which opened at Victoria Station last October.

The team behind the much-loved station-approach boozers teased the news on Instagram with a new Oxford Road Tap account back in February. The post didn't give much away, but simply read: "Great beer is just a few steps away... #OxRdTap".

On it's sister account, Victoria Tap, they teased: "Who dis?! @oxfordrdtap New site coming soon", with people in the comments saying it would be their next stop for a pub crawl.

Unveiled to the public last week, the third Manchester site, like it's sister sites, there's plenty of nods to the location.
