Inside the brand-new café, bar, restaurant, and workspace inside Manchester Central

Think of a convention centre and the first thought that comes to mind might be hundreds of visitors shuffling around pop-up stands and picking up freebies as they make their way around a maize of businesses.

It probably isn't an all-day café, bar and restaurant with locally sourced and seasonal produce, but head to Manchester Central Convention Complex next week and you'll find just that. Junction combines all of the above plus a workspace, and will officially open its doors on Monday (July 22).

Situated next to the venue in Petersfield, the new food, drink and social concept is open from 8am daily (9am on weekends) until late, offering tourists, remote workers, and those attending the event a contemporary and relaxed space to meet-up, work, and also wine and dine.

The city's convention centre first opened inside an old railway station as the G-Mex in 1986. The Manchester Central railway station shut down in 1969, as part of the Beeching review. Junction's entrance will be situated on the podium steps leading up to Manchester Central, with a second internal entrance for delegates visiting events.

The open plan space has been carefully designed to reflect not only the industrial curved architecture of the space - nodding to the history of the former railway station - but to create an easy flow between each of the different concepts so that visitors can experience the new venue at all points of the day.
