Inside Fever guard Caitlin Clark's new Nike signature shoe - ESPN

CAITLIN CLARK CASUALLY leans against a wall minutes before shootaround the morning her Indiana Fever open their WNBA playoff series against the Las Vegas Aces. A half-smirk spreads across her face, an expression that often appears when she talks. The look isn't even intentional, despite being the sort of glance one gives when there's an inside joke no one else knows.

That same tight-lipped, dimple-inducing grin is plastered on the side of a building across the street from Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Fever's home in Indianapolis.

Accompanying the knowing glance is the phrase: Nothing special to see here*. The asterisk is no typo.

Clark's debut signature shoe from Nike — the Caitlin 1 — officially goes on sale Thursday, and the rollout has already begun. The «Caitlin Blue» and yellow «Warning Code» colorways are up first. As the release date approached, Nike began to flood all platforms with an ad campaign promoting the first signature shoe of one of the most well-known athletes on the planet.

«It speaks very much to who I am, like this ordinary person that at times does some super extraordinary things on the court,» Clark told ESPN in an exclusive interview. «But to me, that's just what I do.

»I understand, to other people, it's incredible and they could never comprehend doing those things. But at the same time, I feel like I do everything that they do, whether that's play golf or eat cereal for breakfast or whatever it is."

The campaign, designed in Clark's image, is a sneaky mix of bravado and normalcy. A blend of you-can't-be-me and I'm-you-too.
