Inquest into death of man found dead at country park delayed after key witness charged with robbery

An inquest into the death of a man who was found dead at a Stockport beauty spot is to be delayed after a key witness was charged with a criminal offence.

The body of 26-year-old Keano Byrne, from Gorton, was discovered in a body of water at Reddish Vale Country Park on Friday, April 7 last year.

He had been reported missing on March 27 with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) issuing appeals for information in which they said he was last seen in the early hours of Sunday, March 26, leaving Northumberland Road in Brinnington and walking towards Reddish Vale with another man.

An inquest into his death is to be heard at South Manchester Coroner's Court in Stockport. However, at a pre-inquest review hearing on Wednesday (January 17), the date was pushed back after it was revealed a man who is expected to be an important witness in the inquiry has been charged with robbery.

DS Winters from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) told the hearing: "We have taken the case to the CPS with regards a suspected robbery that occurred in the car park of Reddish Vale Country Park. They have come back with a charge for robbery for Anthony Edge.

"That's the person he was with during the course of the evening and into the early hours of the morning." He is due to appear before Stockport Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 1, she added.

A court official later confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that Mr Edge, 31, of Crossall Street, Macclesfield, Cheshire, has been charged with robbing 'a mobile phone to a value unknown from Paul Skermer' on March 26 last year.
