Injury blow: 'Strong' Leeds defender out for weeks as worrying news emerges from Thorp Arch

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo appears to be out of action for two more weeks, according to The Guardian, despite initial hopes he could return this weekend.

Injury expert Ben Dinnery thought that Firpo, labelled as ‘strong’ in the summer by Kevin Campbell, may have returned from a knee problem at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

As we know, the Spaniard remained at home and watched his teammates secure a crucial 3-0 win against Watford thanks to goals from Raphinha, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison.

Leo Hjelde returned to the bench to bolster Jesse Marsch’s defensive options, however, he could still be without Firpo on the training pitch over the coming weeks.

The Guardian shared a preview of Leeds’ trip to Watford on Friday afternoon.

When it came to Firpo, they revealed he would likely be out for two more weeks with his knee issue, while Jamie Shackleton is also set to be out for two weeks with his ongoing calf problem.

Firpo was the club’s marquee signing in the summer, coming in to fill the void left by Ezgjan Alioski, however, he has struggled at Elland Road, receiving more yellow cards than any other Whites player.

Unfortunately, he has missed the last four games with a knee problem, fixtures in which Leeds have picked up ten points as they look to avoid the drop.

It would be nice to have him back in the squad for the trip to Crystal Palace later this month, but it doesn’t look as if he’ll be involved in too much training at Thorp Arch over the next few weeks, and one would have to question his future if the Whites continue to thrive without him.
