Industrial park alongside M66 set for expansion and refurbishment

A long established industrial park on the outskirts of Bury is set for a massive expansion and refurbishment. The owners of the Pilsworth Industrial Estate, close to the M66, plan to build three new buildings, extend 13 existing units and spruce up the appearance of the remaining units at the employment park.

In a planning application submitted to Bury Council this week, owners Walter Hill Property Group, who are based in Prestwich, outlined their proposals, describing the current buildings on Pilsworth Road and Pilsworth Way as ‘run down and tired’. A design and access statement in support fo the plans, said: “The existing units are of an old industrial vernacular style of metal and cement particle board and elevations with shallow pitched roofs, which is run-down and tired in its appearance.

“We wish to extend the existing industrial units to reflect changes in market requirements, making better land usage of the over generous delivery and parking zones and improve the visual appearance of the industrial park to ‘beautify the street scene’ within the courtyard of the park as a whole and create individual block identity.

“The development proposes extensions and enhancements to 13 existing industrial units. There will be one new build unit as an extension to an existing terrace of units and two new build stand-alone industrial units together with the reconfiguration of the existing car parking and delivery arrangements.

“All existing units are to receive an external upgrade of their visual appearance.”

The estate is 500 metres from the Route 66 retail park and 730 metres from junction 3 of the M66.
