Incredible clip of Messi & Maradona combining to almost score amazing goal re-emerges

Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona are two names that will crop up when the question: ‘Who is the greatest footballer of all time?’ is asked.

The two Argentines both have a case to be called the GOAT.

The late Maradona wowed football fans in the 80s and 90s with spells at Barcelona and Napoli.

It was in Naples where Maradona was elevated to God-like status, leading the side to two Serie A titles as well as winning the 1986 World Cup with Argentina.

Fast forward a decade or so and Messi emerged at Barcelona.

Messi was seen as Maradona’s successor given all of the similarities they shared.

Nobody could have predicted that he would go on to arguably eclipse what Maradona achieved.

But given his seven Ballons d’Or and general brilliance, many football fans believe he has.

Try telling that to Messi, though, who once said: “Even if I played for a million years, I’d never come close to Maradona. Not that I’d want to anyway. He’s the greatest there’s ever been.”

The pair had a close relationship, working together when Maradona was manager of the Argentine national team from 2008-2010.

But if only football fans could witness them both playing together in their prime.

While that didn’t quite happen, incredible footage has reemerged of the pair teaming up in an ‘Argentinian All Star’ charity game in 2005.

Messi was just 18 at the time, while Maradona was 45. Juan Riquelme, Diego Simeone, Marcelo Gallardo, Sergio Aguero and Juan Sebastian Veron were other Argentine stars to feature in the match.

And there’s one clip that is going viral on Twitter of when Messi and Maradona linked up.

The two Argentine legends played multiple passes with each other to bamboozle the defenders before Messi saw his shot saved by the goalkeeper.
