Aston Villa winger Trezeguet has started life on loan at Turkish outfit Istanbul Basaksehir excellently after joining the Super Lig outfit for the remainder of the campaign last month.

Following a 2-0 debut victory over Gaziantep FK, in which the 27-year-old recorded an assist, the Egyptian scored twice at Caykur Rizespor on Friday night as Basaksehir won 2-0 again.

It has taken longer than usually expected for Trezeguet to start playing for his new side having reached the final of the African Cup on Nations with his native Egypt as they lost on penalties.

Already, the winger has doubled his appearance tally in the league for Villa this campaign, having returned from a knee injury with a ten-minute cameo in the 2-1 defeat at Brentford in early January.

Trezeguet had been absent since early April after suffering the injury in the Villans’ 2-1 defeat away at Liverpool last season but it appeared as though new manager Steven Gerrard had little interest in using the Egyptian once he was deemed fit.

Moreover, in his ten-minute spell at the Brentford Community Stadium, the winger was noticed by those outside of either club’s fanbases, but for the wrong reasons, with an embarrassing dive going viral on social media.

Having joined the West Midlands club following their promotion back to the Premier League in 2019 for a fee reported to be around £8.75m from Turkish side Kasimpasa, the winger proved to be pivotal as the Villans scraped survival.

The 27-year-old scored six goals and assisted two in 34 league appearances in the 2019/20 campaign, with a brace against Crystal Palace and a goal against Arsenal making the difference in crucial victories for Dean Smith’s side.
