"In the past few minutes": Sky now drop on-air update that'll leave NUFC fans gutted - opinion

A key claim has been made on Newcastle United’s pursuit of England international Jesse Lingard…

Dharmesh Sheth has dropped an on-air update on Manchester United’s side of the deal, with the Red Devils not being moved as of yet.

The reporter told Sky Sports News (17:10): “We’ve been told in the past few minutes they’ve offered a loan with a bonus. Man United are not responding. I am just wondering whether they’ve closed the gap on that bonus enough.”

The Athletic’s David Ornstein then followed this up suggesting a deal won’t happen at all, with United now blocking a deal.

This update will surely leave Newcastle fans gutted with the player seemingly now not arriving before 11pm.

With 21 games played in the Premier League, the Toon are 18th in the division and have only won two matches all season. They have struggled badly and are on course for relegation, which is why fans will be worrying about who they do or do not bring in on deadline day.

Lingard would have been a terrific addition to the team because of his recent form in the division. He has 11 goals and four assists in his last 16 Premier League starts for United and West Ham combined. This highlights the level of quality he could be able to provide Eddie Howe’s squad with, as he has the talent to score and create goals at the top level.

The forward has also shown this for England, with two goals and two assists in six World Cup qualifier matches for his country. This proves that he can do it for club and country, suggesting that he would be able to cope with the switch to playing on Tyneside, as he has shown that he can provide performances in different settings/teams.

Therefore, fans will be incredibly frustrated that the Magpies weren’t able to get this deal over
