In talks: Journalist issues big update on discussions at Wolves

Journalist Liam Keen revealed on the Express & Star Wolves Podcast that key midfielder Joao Moutinho is currently in discussions with the Midlands team over a new contract, amid speculation of the player moving on at the end of the season. 

Wolves enjoyed a fine maiden season under boss Bruno Lage, finishing 10th in the Premier League while boasting a top-five defence after only conceding 43 goals – which was only bettered by Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, they did struggle towards the end of the season, failing to pick up a win in their last seven games and only drawing two in that time, so they only acquired two points from a possible 21 during a run-in which could have seen them qualify for European competition.

This struggle has since seen a lot of rumours suggesting key players at the club could look to leave Molineux in the summer, including Ruben Neves, Romain Saiss and Conor Coady. Another player whose future has been up in the air is Portuguese midfielder Moutinho, as his contract is due to run out this summer.

However, Keen, who appeared on the E&S Wolves Podcast this week, stated that Moutinho is in fact in talks with the club over a new deal, but nothing is concrete yet.

He said: “Moutinho currently is 50-50. Wolves are talking to him and offering him a contract. I think it comes down to the years of contract, but they’re trying to keep him.”

Wolves experienced a turbulent season, as after starting strong, they failed to capitalise on their early form and as stated above, took a huge dip which saw them fighting for their top-10 status rather than a European spot which looked likely just months ago.
