Imran Tahir agrees three-year deal with England’s Wedgwood Cricket Club

South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir will play for North Staffordshire and South Cheshire League division three club Wedgwood Cricket Club later this year.

According to Club Cricket SA, Tahir has signed a three-year agreement with the club.

Tahir is no stranger to the English club cricket scene, having previously featured for League Norton-in-Hales Cricket Club, Moddershall Cricket Club and Meir Heath Cricket Club in the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire premier league.

Wedgwood vice-chairman Haroon Mohammed Khan told the Stoke Sentinel: “We’re thrilled to be able to announce this news, truly a watershed moment for the club, the city, and for cricket in North Staffordshire.

“Imran is a huge name in the world of cricket with a huge amount of experience which he can bring to all levels of Wedgwood Cricket Club.”

Tahir hopes to impart his impressive cricket knowledge at the club.

“I’m really excited to be joining Wedgwood Cricket Club from the 2022 season.

“I’m looking forward to meeting you all and sharing my experiences with the club’s future stars.

“I also want to help the club to get to the Premier Division in the future.”

The 42-year-old recently revealed that he is still available to international selection.

“I am still available for selection in T20Is. I believe I am fit enough to play in the T20 World Cup (in Australia). I hope that selectors will consider my performances around the world. If they do, I am sure they’ll find me a deserving candidate,” Tahir told GeoNews.

While he is yet to seriously contemplate retirement, Tahir hopes to get into coaching after he hangs up his boots.
