Impressive new images show what state-of-the-art college transformation could look like

Impressive new images show how a new college building in Wigan could look once completed.

Wigan and Leigh College’s Parson's Walk campus could see an overhaul if plans are approved. The redevelopment project seeks to demolish the Wigan School for the Arts building and the main college building and replace it with a state-of-the-art learning environment for students.

If the project is given the go-ahead by Wigan Council, the current buildings - which date back to the 1950’s - would be flattened and replaced with a three-storey net-zero teaching block.

The new building would include a range of classrooms, seminar rooms, IT suites, specialist rooms, laboratories and meeting rooms. There are also plans for a publicly accessible restaurant, florist and salon operated by the students.

The proposals include the reduction of parking spaces at the site by 94 and the delivery of a biodiversity net gain.The works at the Wigan site would be done in stages in order to prevent disruption of students’ education.

The arts building would be demolished first, then once the new facility is built and operational, the music block and main building would be flattened. The University of Central Lancashire and gateway buildings on site would be retained, with the former receiving small scale aesthetic works.

A spokesperson for Wigan and Leigh College explained they have been preparing for the project over the last two years by relocating student activity to minimise disruption to students whilst construction takes place.
