Imagine him & Souttar: GVB can form dream Rangers duo with £27k-pw "absolute mountain" - opinion
After significant speculation that Connor Goldson was set to depart Rangers this summer, the Ibrox outfit surprised fans with the news that the centre-back had signed a new four-year deal with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side earlier this week.
The Englishman, who was heavily linked with a move to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest, could go on to form a superb partnership with new signing John Souttar next season at the heart of Rangers’ defence.
Since signing from Brighton in 2018, the 29-year-old has gone on to make 222 appearances for the Gers, contributing 22 goals and nine assists.
Goldson was a key player in van Bronckhorst’s side this season, with WhoScored awarding him a 7.07 average rating across his 32 appearances in the Premiership, while he also appeared 14 times in the Europa League, as the Teddy Bears reached the final.
Therefore, now the £27k-per-week defender has committed his future to the club, it seems clear that he will continue to be a key man at Ibrox next season, as the Gers look to reclaim the Premiership title and make a strong impression again in Europe.
Considering the disappointing injury records of fellow centre-backs Leon Balogun and Filip Helander, it seems likely that he will partner new signing John Souttar in van Bronckhorst’s 4-3-3 system next season, especially if Calvin Bassey completes a move away from Ibrox.

The 25-year-old has now officially joined Rangers after signing a pre-contract deal in January, and if his performances for Hearts are anything to go by, he will be a stellar addition at
