Image: VAR looks to have made a big Aston Villa error - opinion

Aston Villa supporters will surely be fuming to see this major incident that VAR appeared to miss.

Steven Gerrard watched on from the sidelines as his side managed to stop a run of four straight defeats with a 0-0 draw away to Leicester City, although this still keeps them just on the fringes of a relegation battle after Burnley’s recent renaissance.

Villa can potentially count themselves unfortunate to only leave the King Power Stadium with just a point as they finished the game with a higher XG than their opponents and forced Kasper Schmeichel into three smart saves throughout the afternoon.

It’s not just from actual shooting chances that Villa could count themselves unlucky as they may have been awarded a penalty when Leon bailey’s low strike struck the arm of Wesley Fofana who slid to block the shot, leaving his arm dangling away from his body, with VAR seemingly not interested in the incident with the game continuing, as shown by the commentary on Villa TV.

TIF Thoughts on the penalty incident…

While Gerrard and Villa will be happy just to see their side stop that atrocious run of form that they were on, however, after seeing this incident that was not mentioned on Match of the Day nor on Sky Sports’ match highlights, fans will surely be furious.

VAR was brought in to stop incidents such as this one creating such controversy and talking points, however, it appears that the VAR officials at Stockley Park thought this handball, which stopped Bailey’s effort from going goalbound, wasn’t enough to warrant a spot kick.
