Ilkay Gundogan speaks on Erling Haaland future amid Man City transfer interest

Ilkay Gundogan says he expects Borussia Dortmund to cope if Erling Haaland leaves the club this summer.

Manchester City want to sign Haaland and are in pole position as the forward makes a decision over his future. He is expected to leave Dortmund, who admitted last week that he could move to the Premier League.

Gundogan is one of many top players to come through at Dortmund and leave for a supposedly-bigger club, with the Bundesliga side boasting a proud record of generating big profits from their star players before replacing them with new promising talents.

And now the City midfielder has addressed Haaland's future when discussing Dortmund's chances of challenging Bayern Munich next season.

"The conditions are definitely there. Niklas Süle's signing is definitely a statement," he told Sport1 of Dortmund.

"The fact that you were able to win a more or less Bayern regular and national player for yourself - and that still free of charge - leaves an impression. I think Bayern too. Should Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi also come to BVB, that would undoubtedly be an upgrade. Both have already shown what they are capable of both at club and national level.

"Karim has also caused a sensation in the Champions League. Such guys are the future of German football.
