Ilkay Gundogan makes Man City admission after Champions League final win

Ilkay Gundogan admitted Manchester City were off their game in the first half of the Champions League final.

It was a tight, nervy match with the Blues edging it 1-0 through Rodri's second half strike but City had Ederson to thank for some crucial late saves. Gundogan ended the night holding the famous trophy as City became the second English team to win the treble.

The skipper said City always knew they would be in for a challenging night in the stifling Istanbul heat and was proud of the performance, even if the first half didn't go to plan.

"It's a Champions League final, it was clear it was going to be difficult, for both teams," he said, speaking to BT Sport after the game. "We weren't at our best in the first half, we were a little hesitant even though we had a couple of good chances.

"We knew we had to do better in the second. I think that's what we did but it was probably a 50/50 game and just today one goal made the difference as probably many times in finals and we feel very fortunate that it was for us.

"It's an unbelievable night, we are so happy. It's difficult to put into words what just happened. I think today we made history

"We knew everyone was talking about the treble and especially after that FA Cup final., the pressure was there but I think this team is built to deal with the pressure in the best possible way and I think it's what we did."
