Iga Swiatek juggernaut rolls on as she extends winning streak to 20 matches with Stuttgart win

The Iga Swiatek steamroller took out Eva Lys in the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix as the world No 1 dropped only two games en route to her 20th consecutive win on the WTA Tour.

Fresh from winning three consecutive WTA 1000 events, Swiatek brushed aside qualifier Lys 6-1, 6-1 in just over 60 minutes in Stuttgart to also take her consecutive sets won tally to 26.

The Pole’s 26-set streak is the longest since Serena Williams won 28 in a row between the 2012 US Open and 2013 Australian Open while 13 of Swiatek’s sets were won either 6-0 or 6-1.

The top seed broke twice in the opening set and four times in the second set, although world No 342 Lys did break her serve once in the second set.

“Eva battled for every point which didn’t make it easy for me. Even though I put her under a lot of pressure, she always came up with some great shots,” Swiatek said. “I had to be patient.”

Swiatek will face either lucky loser Tamara Korpatsch from Germany or eighth seed and US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the quarter-final.
