Iga Swiatek equals Naomi Osaka’s insane win streak from 2020-21

Iga Swiatek has tied Naomi Osaka’s winning streak of 23 matches, after beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

The new world number one has now won four titles in a row and last lost a match on February 16th against Jelena Ostapenko in Dubai.

Swiatek has looked invincible of late and dominated Sabalenka from start to finish in Stuttgart –– needing just 84 minutes to see off the Belarusian in straight sets 6-2 6-2. 

Swiatek’s outstanding winning run began in Doha, where she claimed her fourth WTA title. 

Dominant performances at the Sunshine Double of Indian Wells and Miami soon followed –– ensuring she ended the hard court season on a high. 

And after transitioning to her favoured surface of clay, Swiatek stormed to victory again in Stuttgart to claim her seventh career title. 

Her 23 match unbeaten run ties Osaka’s streak between 2020 and 2021, which saw the Japanese star win back-to-back Grand Slams at the US Open and the Australian Open. 

Swiatek is now joint ninth on the list of players with the longest win streaks since 2000.

Venus Williams holds the top spot for her run of 35 straight victories in 2000. This included victories at Wimbledon, the Silicon Valley Classic, the Southern California Open, the Connecticut Open, the US Open and at the Summer Olympics in Sydney.
