If you paid attention to Ange at Celtic then you know how exactly how Harry Kane's Tottenham future plays out

Ange Postecoglou did an interview with an Aussie TV channel a couple of weeks ago in which he was asked: ‘Does it have to be your way or the highway?’

Anyone who has paid any attention to the former Celtic’s manager’s two season tenure at Parkhead would have known the answer to that question before it left Postecoglou’s lips. Which is why all the hours of air space being filled on Sky and talkSPORT over Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham, all the speculation over the anxiety and frustration Ange must be feeling about the England captain’s situation, is really pretty meaningless.

It’s rather simple. Postecoglou will have sat down with Kane and outlined his vision of where he plans to take Spurs. If Kane’s eyes lit up and he declared himself on board, fine. If Postecoglou detected a thousand yard stare coming back at him and got the impression the man sitting in front of him had Munich or Manchester on his mind, he’d be dead to him. That’s just how this manager rolls. Ask Giorgos Giakoumakis or Josip Juranovic. They decided the grass looked greener elsewhere and Postecoglou didn’t shed any tears or make an attempt to dissuade them from leaving Celtic. Instead, he showed them the door and went out to find replacements in Hyeon-gyu Oh and Alastair Johnston.

No drama, no messing. The message to those who didn’t want to hitch themselves onto his bandwagon was clear - if you’re not all in, you’re out. Now, although GG or JJ can’t be compared to Kane in terms of profile or market value, the fundamental principle remains the same.

Postecoglou, unless he has undergone a complete character change (which is unlikely), won’t hesitate to cut the striker loose if he detects a reluctance or ambivalence towards him or his methods.
